Jan joined the Bigfoot Research And Investigation in 1968, and started Investigating in the field in 1972. He was promoted to Chief Investigator in 1986 and held that untill Jan, 2000. In Jan, 2000 the founder and chief investigator of the team passed away, leaving Jan to take over the team as Sr Chief Investigator.
